Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (March 18, 2015) — For the fifth consecutive year, Signature Consultants is honored to be recognized as one of the “Best Staffing Firms to Work For.”
As one of only three firms to make the list for the last five years, Signature credits this significant accomplishment to its emphasis on maintaining a high-touch approach in a high-tech workplace. From its inception in 1997, Signature set out to create a company that cared more about people than profits. This philosophy permeates throughout the entire company.
“Even if treating people well played no role as a competitive differentiator, it would still be our top priority,” says Jay Cohen, founder and CEO of Signature Consultants. “Ultimately, it’s the right thing to do.” Cohen believes a happy work environment is essential for attracting and retaining the best people. “If you don’t have the right people, you’re not going to be successful. Staffing is definitely a team sport.”
His employees agree. “I came to this company on a two-week assignment and fell in love,” recalls Beatriz Hernandez, an administrative service manager who has now been with the company since 2007. “The people here are so warm and friendly—the opposite of my previous expectations of most employers.”
One of the keys to Signature’s success is that it’s friends-first, relationship-driven approach applies to internal employees and consultants equally. First-time consultant Abigail Medlin initially encountered Signature’s high-touch approach while attending one of the company’s planned events. Medlin had just moved to the area after a local employer hired her husband.
“I was in tears, and they were my lifesavers. Signature helped me with more than a job,” explains Medlin. “They helped me acclimate and fit in. I don’t think I would have stayed without them.” Having now transitioned from a consultant to a full-time employee, Medlin credits finding the right match to her time with Signature.
Signature focuses on engaging with consultants before, during, and after they are successfully placed. They do this through weekly phone calls and meetings for coffee, lunches, and happy hours. Signature also welcomes consultants and clients at company events, including user groups, lunch & learns, holiday parties in many of its offices across the nation, and other social events that host thousands of guests.
Interoffice socialization is also encouraged to help employees from across the country get to know each other better. Employees frequently travel to other locations to meet coworkers and learn about the practices at those offices.
Cohen justifies the expense of these trips as a business necessity. “Friends will solve in minutes, what enemies will never solve,” explains Cohen.
Beyond recruiters staying in touch with consultants and frequent interoffice camaraderie, Signature employees instinctively go out of their way to keep up with the personal lives of those they do business with. Beatriz Hernandez regularly shares news of births, birthdays, anniversaries, illnesses, and family losses with others in the company.
“As part of my job, I’m in contact with our consultants every week,” explains Hernandez. “We share what’s going on in our lives, both good and bad. We’re friends. It’s what makes my job so fulfilling.”
Abigail Medlin offers further evidence that Signature’s people-first approach succeeds. When the former consultant is asked whether she’d recommend Signature to other consultants, her response is enthusiastic. “People matter to Signature. A lot of firms place you and forget you. Signature is the way to go. I hand out their business cards like candy.”
About the Survey
Over 150 staffing firms took part in the program this year, conducted for Staffing Industry Analysts by Quantum Workplace, an independent research firm specializing in employee engagement. Internal employees and consultants at each firm were asked to complete a 40-question online survey that measured ten key engagement categories, including teamwork, trust in senior leaders, feeling valued, manager effectiveness, compensation, and benefits. The survey was open to any staffing firm operating in the U.S., U.K., and Canada and was confidential and anonymous.
