Job Summary:

Signature Consultants is seeking a Systems Engineer 3 for an opportunity with a client located in Manassas, VA.


  • Apply interdisciplinary, collaborative approaches to plan, design, develop and verify system solutions
  • Define and coordinate system performance requirements and integrate technical parameters
  • Develop and document electronic and electrical system requirements
  • Perform analysis to optimize total system and/or system architecture to solve complex missile defense problems
  • Define high level functional and performance requirements and verification methods
  • Develop verification and validation methods, processes, logic, and plans in support of program milestones
  • Analyze and translate requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications
  • Perform analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, survivability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance, product security (cyber security) and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success
  • Utilization of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools such as DOORS, Cameo, and mathematical modeling and simulation to develop system definitions and perform trade studies in assigned areas
  • Evaluate systems under various scenarios and architectures to determine and/or optimize overall system mission performance in a framework giving insight into performance
  • Perform analysis to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture to solve complex missile defense problems
  • Develop and maintain analysis tools of varied fidelity including modeling and simulation tools to predict performance against evolving threats of current and future missile defense systems
  • Perform systems analyses of the existing system architecture in conjunction with new technologies and concepts for improvements to be considered for future architectures
  • Develop, refine and document key algorithm capabilities to support various DoD customers
  • Conducts analysis of multiple targets discrimination for survivability, vulnerability, and susceptibility into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success
  • Development of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools, processes and architectures
  • Configuration, data and work flow management of program specific MBSE tools and processes
  • Establishment of protocol / process for integration of engineering tools with MBSE
  • Responsible for tailoring and deploying MBE/MBSE techniques to MWS Programs

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 10+ years of system safety engineering experience focusing on
  • Defect analysis & troubleshooting of aircraft systems
  • Service engineering experience in aircraft systems at an airline, aircraft original equipment manufacturer (OEM), or component OEM
  • Using technical knowledge databases including IBM Rational DOORS
  • Root cause analysis (RCA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) methods, Failure Modes and Effects Criticality Analysis (FMECA) practices, and corrective action development
  • Familiar with industry standards for hardware and software certification, including but not limited to FAA Type Certification under 14 CFR Parts 21, 23, 25 27, or 29; RTCA DO-178C; RTCA DO-254; SAE ARP4754A and SAE ARP4761
  • Expertise in MIL-STD-882E (DoD System Safety Standard Practice) and SAE ARP4761 (Guidelines and Methods for Conducting the Safety Assessment Process on Civil Airborne Systems and Equipment)
  • Expertise in MIL-HDBK-516C (DoD Airworthiness Certification Criteria) and RTCA DO-178C (Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification)
  • Familiarity with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs)

Desired Requirements:

  • Experience with the use of formal methods in safety certification
  • Experience with STPA/STAMP
  • Experience using Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods and tools
  • Demonstrated experience working with a tailored Systems Engineering approach
  • Familiarity with military airworthiness certification processes (MIL-HDBC-516C)
  • Familiarity with civilian certification processes (RTCA DO-178C, SAE ARP4754)
